Heller's Fifth-Place Finish Highlights Kent State Cross Country's Day At Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Redshirt junior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) finished fifth on the men's side with a time of 24:44 to highlight Kent State cross country's day at the Spartan Invitational Friday (Sept. 16) at Michigan State's Forest Akers East Golf Course.
Redshirt sophomore Steve Fischer (Hudson, Ohio) joined Heller in the top 20, taking 16th by crossing the finish line in 25:02. Redshirt sophomore Daniel Bullard (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) clocked a 25:27 to take 33rd. Sophomore Andrew Goodwin (Celina, Ohio) took 42nd in 25:36. Redshirt junior Colin Pettiford (Toledo, Ohio) finished 63rd with a time of 26:01. Freshman Russell McCune (Wadsworth, Ohio) clocked a 26:04 to take 67th. Redshirt senior Destin Heasley (Massillon, Ohio) timed in at 26:20 to finish 87th. Redshirt freshman Matt Kahl (Mason, Ohio) finished 104th in 26:38. Junior Daryl Murphy (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) timed in at 27:01 for 130th.
While Heller was the top finisher for the Golden Flashes in the men's 8k, redshirt freshman Paige Foster (Prior Lake, Minn.) was Kent State's top finisher in the women's 6k with a 56th-place finish in 22:26. Junior Alexandria Vintevoghel (Casco, Mich.) took 67th with a time of 22:42. Redshirt sophomore Hannah Spicer (Canal Winchester, Ohio) clocked a 22:58 for 80th. Redshirt sophomore Melinda Sawnor (Rochester, N.Y.) placed 99th with a time of 23:27. Redshirt senior Kassandra Meholick (New Cumberland, Pa.) timed in at 23:38 for 115th. Redshirt freshman Katelyn Jacobson (Carrollton, Ohio) took 183rd with a time of 26:00. Junior Lindsey Fascione (North Royalton, Ohio) clocked a 26:00 for 183rd.
Kent State closes out the September portion of its 2011 schedule in two weeks, journeying to Cedarville, Ohio, to participate in the All-Ohio Championships.
