Kent State Men's Cross Country Team Posts Second-Place Finish At All-Ohio Championships

Heller leads the charge by taking eighth in 25:21.65.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio. -- The Kent State men's cross country team battled rain and 25 mile per hour winds to enjoy a second-place finish in the 8k run of the All-Ohio Championships Friday (Sept. 30) at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio. The Golden Flashes tallied 109 points and saw four runners finish in the top 25 on the men's side to place second while the women's team posted 366 points for 11th in the 5k.
Redshirt junior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) led the men's team with an eighth-place finish, clocking a 25:21.65 to place in the top 10 for the third time in as many races for Kent State. Redshirt sophomore Steve Fischer (Hudson, Ohio) joined Heller in the top 15, taking 13th in 25:29.22. Sophomore Andrew Goodwin (Celina, Ohio) took 18th in 25:37.34. Redshirt sophomore Daniel Bullard (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) clocked a 25:49.73 to take 25th. Redshirt freshman Matt Kahl (Mason, Ohio) finished 45th in 26:08.80 to round out Kent State's top five on the men's side. Redshirt junior Colin Pettiford (Toledo, Ohio) finished 56th in 26:15.14 while freshman Russell McCune (Wadsworth, Ohio) clocked a 26:20.98 to take 61st.
The Golden Flashes are back in action again in two weeks, heading to Muncie, Ind., for the Ball State Invitational on Oct. 14. The race will serve as a prep for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships, which are also being held in Muncie.
