Field Hockey On the Road In Pennsylvania This Weekend

Golden Flashes take on Lock Haven Friday and Temple on Sunday
The Kent State field hockey team completes a five-game swing away from home with a pair of games in Pennsylvania this weekend. The Golden Flashes travel to Lock Haven on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. match before heading on to Philadelphia and a 1:00 p.m. showdown with Temple on Sunday.
Scouting Kent State (1-3):
• The Golden Flashes are coming off their first victory of the season last Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 overtime win over Massachusetts at Iowa. Senior Debbie Bell won the game in overtime with a penalty stroke goal after the Kent State penalty corner unit, made a pair of key defensive stops in the final three minutes.
• The UMass victory capped off a weekend in which the offense accounted for six goals in two games. Bell led the charge with three scores, while sophomore Rebecca Lee added two and freshman Julia Hofmann recorded the first goal of her career.
Scouting Lock Haven (1-3):
• Lock Haven fell to 1-3 on the year after losses to Penn State (5-2) and at Cornell (3-2) last weekend. The Eagles are averaging 2.3 goals per games this season and have scored at least two goals in all four games. Six different players have scored at least one goals for the balanced offensive. Lock Haven is now in its second season as a member of the Atlantic 10 after claiming five regular season Northeast Conference titles in six years.
• The all-time series between is even at 6-6-1. Kent State has won the last three meetings including a 2-0 victory in the last encounter on Sept. 13, 2009.

Scouting Temple (1-3):
• Temple, which travels to Lafayette on Friday, also brings a 1-3 record into the weekend. The Owls began the year with a 4-0 shutout of Bucknell, but have currently lost three straight to the likes of Maryland (6-0), Michigan (3-2 ot) and Ohio (2-0).
• Bridget Settles leads the team in scoring having accounted for five of Temple's six goals scored this season.
• This is just the second ever meeting between the two schools and the first since the 1994. The only other encounter came in 1993. Ironically enough the other meetings (Sept. 11, 1993; Sept. 10, 1994) also occurred on this same calendar weekend.

The Golden Flashes return home for a two-game home stand on Sunday, Sept. 18 vs Ohio State at 1:00 p.m. and on Monday, Sept. 19 vs Cal at 12:00 p.m.. Home games take place at Murphy-Mellis Field located on the Northside of the Dix Stadium Complex. Admission is free for all games.
