HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

Kent State head coach Danielle O'Banion on Amber Dunlap:
"Amber is our most dynamic scorer on the perimeter. She manages to get to the rim, finish versus contact, and she is also a reliable shooter. Any time a junior-college player is available in April into May, it is kind of a roll of the dice to be honest. Fortunately, Amber was a player we were aware of at Memphis, so we were comfortable with her character. She has been even better as a player. We feel like she has the total package to come here and be able to help in her first year at Kent State."
Introducing 6-foot-1 forward Kourtney Perry
Kent State head coach Danielle O'Banion on Kourtni Perry:
"Kourtni is our lone walk-on this year and she is doing a nice job so far. Her skill set is starting to catch up with her physical frame and that is good news for the Flashes. She is extremely powerful and aggressive, which gives her a chance to be impactful in her first season of competition. "
EARLIER THIS WEEK:
THURSDAY, OCT. 11
Today we introduce 5-foot-8 guard Ashley Evans
Prior to Kent State
• Will be immediately eligible for competition after transferring from Cloud County (Kan.) Community
College
2011-12 – CLOUD COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
• Started 27 games at Cloud County to help lead the T-Birds to a 22-10 record
• Averaged 10.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game
2010-11 – ANGELINA COLLEGE
• Played one season before transferring to Cloud County Community College HIGH SCHOOL NO...
Kent State coach Danielle O'Banion on Ashley Evans:
"We recruited Ashley to share point guard responsibilities with Rachel Mendelsohn and it's worked out well thus far. The fact that she played two years of junior college basketball helps her transition to our system. She probably has the best physical strength of any of our perimeter players in addition to being a hard-nosed defender. Her challenge will be maximizing those strengths on a consistent basis. Ashley is our silent assassin right now, and we are looking forward to her finding more of her voice."
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10
On Thursday we introuced 6-foot-3 center Heather Bachman
Prior to Kent State

• Won the 2012 Athena Award, which recognizes the top female athlete in the senior class of each high school in the Minneapolis metropolitan area
• Also competed at the AAU level for the Minnesota Stars
Kent State head coach Danielle O'Banion on Heather Bachman:
TUESDAY, OCT. 9
On Tuesday we introuced 5-foot-8 guard Rachel Mendelsohn
Prior to Kent State
• Guided Jesuit High School to the 2011 Oregon 6A State Basketball Championship
• Averaged 17 points and five assists as a senior to garner first team all-state honors
• Also competed at the AAU level for Team Concept, helping the squad win multiple tournament championships
Kent State head coach Danielle O'Banion on Rachel Mendelsohn:
"Rachel has the unique task of being a freshman point guard on a team of freshmen. Although the majority of our team returns from last season, no one on our roster has played for this staff. She is charged to direct and lead an offensive attack that is brand new for everyone. We've been very pleased with her these first few weeks of practice, because she has managed this role well. She is also one of our physically tougher players, which is vital, especially at the point guard position.
