KENT, Ohio – A formidable schedule awaits the Kent State gymnastics squad in 2013, as the Golden Flashes will utilize a challenging slate in preparation for the postseason.
Two home dates highlight Kent State's schedule: the Golden Flashes will host their annual "Flip for the Cure" meet Friday, March 1 against Ball State, while a "Beauty and the Beast" meet, a simultaneous meet with Kent State wrestling, is on the docket for Friday, Feb. 8. More information will be released at a later date on the first-ever simultaneous event.
"With this schedule, we're excited about the quality of teams we will compete against," head coach Brice Biggin said. "With our home meets, we have the opportunity to showcase some great opponents for our fans. Our schedule will definitely prepare us for the MAC and the postseason."
Five teams that competed in the 2012 NCAA Gymnastics Regional round will face the Golden Flashes this season, including both of Kent State's first two meets: Iowa State (Jan. 11) and Penn State (Jan. 19), with Kent State also facing NCAA participant Minnesota at the Penn State quad. Both events will be road endeavors for the Golden Flashes.
Kent State will host five regular season home events, starting with Western Michigan and George Washington on Jan. 25. The Golden Flashes will also host defending Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan Feb. 15 and NCAA Regional participant New Hampshire as part of a four-team meet with Southeast Missouri State and Cornell March 15.
The remainder of Golden Flashes' home slate includes Rutgers Feb. 8 and Ball State March 1. The Golden Flashes will also host their annual preseason Blue and Gold Intrasquad meet Nov. 30.
The regular season slate of 10 events leads up to the 2013 MAC Championship March 23, hosted by Western Michigan. NCAA Regional action is set for April 6, with the NCAA Championships following on April 19-21, hosted by UCLA.
