The Game
Fresh off a thrilling season opening win over Drexel on Friday night Kent State (1-0) returns to action on Tuesday in front of a national televised ESPN audience as the Golden Flashes play host to Temple (0-0). The game is part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon as the network is set to broadcast 24 hours of basketball.
Coming into the year with only one returning starter, any questions about the Golden Flashes' level of competitiveness were answered on Friday night as the team battled for a 66-62 OT victory over the Dragons, who are picked by many to win the CAA this season. Senior forward Chris Evans adjusted well to his starting roll racking up 21 points and nine rebounds. Evans was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week for his performance that also included two assists and two blocks. Â
Senior Randal Holt meanwhile, showed little signs of an off season knee surgery that kept him out of nearly the entire preseason. Holt delivered 15 of his 17 points after halftime, including four straight free throws in the final 20 seconds of overtime to close out the win.
Tuesday's game marks the season opener for Temple. The Owls return eight letterwinners from last year's Atlantic 10 Regular Season champions. Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, a preseason first team all-league selection, is the A10's top returning scorer (17.1 ppg).
