The Game
A season long five-game homestand to start the year continues Sunday afternoon as Kent State (2-1) welcomes Valparaiso (2-1) to the M.A.C. Center. The game is the second of four games for the Golden Flashes as part of the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic. Kent State also hosts Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday as part of the tournament before traveling to Lincoln to face the Huskers on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a 92-63 win over Chicago State in which five players scored in double figures for Kent State. Sophomore Devareaux Manley paced the offensive outburst with a career high 20 points after not scoring a single point in the first two games for Kent State. Manley, who was 6-8 from three in the game, paced a second half shooting exhibition that saw the Golden Flashes hit 9-16 from beyond the arc to put the game out of reach.
Senior forward Chris Evans has continued to make his presence felt underneath adding 14 points and eight rebounds. Evans, who leads Kent State with 17.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, also chipped in four steals and four assists in Friday's win.
Valparaiso is coming off a 50-48 loss at Nebraska on Thursday night. Senior Kevin Van Wijk led the preseason Horizon League favorites with 20 points and six rebounds in the loss.
