Kent State senior defender becomes second Academic All-American in program history
KENT, Ohio – Hannah Newhouse, a senior defender on the Kent State women's soccer team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
One of 94 eligible candidates for Academic All-America honors this year, Newhouse is the second player in Kent State history to be recognized for academic and athletic success by CoSIDA. Bethany Sanker was a third-team All-American selection in 2002.
As a senior, Newhouse aided Kent State in posting one of their most successful seasons in program history. Newhouse started all 20 games for the Golden Flashes – in fact, played in every minute – while aiding Kent State to a 13-5-2 record. As a defender, Newhouse helped the team post nine shutouts in 20 games, a total that is second-best in program history.
Newhouse scored one goal while adding three assists as a senior, giving her career totals of two goals, four assists and eight points. Newhouse was named a Mid-American Conference second-team performer this fall and was also named to the MAC's all-tournament team.
Academically, Newhouse owns a 3.97 grade-point average in psychology, with a pre-med emphasis. She was a 2011 Academic all-MAC honoree and has earned academic honors all six semesters at Kent State, including President's List (4.0 on 4.0 scale) twice.
