Kent State closes out its non-conference schedule at Cleveland State on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The regional rivalry game between the Golden Flashes and Vikings is set for a 6 p.m. tip at the Wolstein Center. Both teams come into the game with matching 8-5 records.
Kent State seniors Chris Evans and Randal Holt continue to lead the Golden Flashes in scoring. Evans is averaging 16.9 per game and is coming off a career-high 27-point performance against Fairmont State on Sunday night. Holt is averaging 13.2 per game while leading the MAC in three-pointers made with 30.
Kent State has won three straight games. To extend the streak to four, the Flashes will need to end Cleveland State's perfect 5-0 start at home this season. That string of victories at the Wolstein Center includes a 79-59 win over Rio Grande on Dec. 28 in the Vikings' last game.
Cleveland State boasts three players averaging in double figures, including 6-foot-8 sophomore Anton Grady (13.7), 5-foot-9 sophomore Charlie Lee (13.5) and 6-foot-7 senior Tim Kamczyc (10.0).
While Kent State owns a 25-22 lead in the all-time series with Cleveland State, the Vikings have claimed the last three meetings, including a 57-53 win in Kent last season.
Cleveland State coach Gary Waters compiled a 92-60 record in five seasons at Kent State from 1996-2001, leading the Golden Flashes to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
