The Game
On the verge of a 13th 20-win season in 14 years, Kent State (19-6; 9-3 MAC) steps away from Mid-American Conference action on Saturday at 6:00 pm to host the College of Charleston (16-11; 8-8 SoCon) as part of the 10th annual Sears Bracketbusters event. The Golden Flashes are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Elite Eight team and members of the team, including former All-American Antonio Gates will be honored at halftime.
Kent State has won seven straight to climb into a tie for second place in the MAC East Division and overall standings following a 76-71 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night.
Senior guard Michael Porrini, was all over the stat sheet scoring 14 of his 16 points in the second half while adding nine assists and six rebounds. Porrini has been superb over the last 12 games and is the only MAC player during that span averaging more than 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds & 5.0 assists per game. During the seven game win streak he is shooting 45 percent (10-22) from three. Senior forward Justin Greene meanwhile has led the team in scoring in each of the last four games averaging 18.0 points during the stretch. With 760 career rebounds to his credit he needs only five boards to move into third place and 11 to move into second on Kent State's all-time list.
Charleston had won four of five before a 78-63 setback at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday. Antwaine Wiggins, a 6'7" forward leads the team with 16.3 points per game. Andrew Lawrence a 6'1" guard (13.4 ppg) and Trent Wiedeman, a 6'8" forward (11.7 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
