KENT, Ohio - Attention fans of the Blue & Gold: come watch the 2012 NCAA Baseball Championship Selection with the Mid-American Conference champion Kent State squad Monday (May 28) at the Water Street Tavern in downtown Kent beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Ranked No. 27 in the nation according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the No. 1-seeded Golden Flashes (41-17) ran their winning streak to a nation-long 17 games courtesy of a 3-1 MAC Tournament Championship Game triumph over No. 3-seeded Central Michigan Saturday (May 26) at All Pro Freight Stadium to clinch the program's unprecedented fourth straight conference tournament title and fourth trip to the NCAA Championship Regionals in as many seasons.
The 2012 NCAA Championships begin with the Regionals next weekend (June 1-4). Regional sites will be announced Sunday (May 27) at www.ncaa.com/cws at 3:30 p.m. The 64-team field, with first-round regional pairings and site assignments, will be revealed in a live, half-hour telecast Monday on ESPNU at noon.
In 2011, Kent State earned a berth in the NCAA Championship Austin Regional and the program's first-ever national tournament regional No. 3 seed. The Flashes tallied an 11-inning 4-2 win over Texas State and followed it with a 7-5 winner's bracket final triumph over regional host and No. 5-ranked Texas to earn the school's second-ever berth in a regional final.
