Kent State had 15-8 advantage in shots taken during regulation
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Kent State soccer team posted its third shutout of the season as the Golden Flashes played host Bowling Green to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Cochrane Field. The decision leaves Kent State at 5-2-2; 0-1-1 MAC on the year while Mid-American Conference East Division foe Bowling Green sits at 1-8-1; 0-1-1 MAC.
The Golden Flashes were the aggressor throughout the 90 minutes of regulation holding a 15-8 advantage in shots taken and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. One of the best looks by Kent State came with 18 minute left when junior Jaclyn Dutton (Bridgeport, Ohio) attempted a shot only to have Bowling Green freshman keeper Jenna Underwood make leaping save to deny the scoring opportunity. Kent State was never able to capitalize on the shot advantage as the team went into extra time for the third game this season.
In the first extra session, the Golden Flashes had a couple of long throw ins to the box and another corner kick, but were never able to manage a clean look on goal. Junior Jessacca Gironda (Akron, Ohio) gave Kent State its best look in the second overtime with a shot in the 103rd minute, but it sailed wide.
For Bowling Green, the Falcons' Demy Whitaker had her shot in the final minute his the outside of the post as the match ended in a scoreless tie.
The 0-0 tie was the first for the Golden Flashes since their trip to Bowling Green in October of 2009.
Goalie Stephanie Senn (Grand Island, N.Y.) recorded four saves for Kent State.
Kent State returns to Zoller Field next weekend hosting Ball State at 4:00 pm on Friday and Miami at 1:00 pm on Sunday. Admission is free for both matches.
