Kent State carries a four-game winning streak into the start of Mid-American Conference play on Wednesday when Toledo visits the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes will also put a 31-game winning streak against MAC West Division opponents on the line when they face the Rockets.
Toledo was the last team from the MAC West to beat Kent State. That 59-56 finish in Toledo came all the way back in 2008 when Jim Christian was the head coach of the Golden Flashes.
Chris Evans leads Kent State in both scoring (16.5 per game) and rebounding (7.6). Evans and Randal Holt (13.4 points per game) combine to account for 42 percent of the Golden Flashes scoring so far this season. That makes them the No. 3 scoring tandem in the entire MAC.
The league's No. 1 scoring tandem is Toledo's backcourt combination of junior Rian Pearson and sophomore Julius Brown. Pearson, a two-time MAC West Player of the Week, leads the conference in scoring at 19.2 per game, while Brown is at 13.5.
Kent State's four-game winning streak includes a 72-55 victory at Cleveland State on Jan. 2 in its last start before a one-week layoff.
Toledo's last game was back on Dec. 31 when it suffered a 58-53 home loss to Chicago State.
Cleveland State and Chicago State just happen to be the only like opponents on the Kent State and Toledo Schedules. Toledo lost 78-73 at Cleveland State on Dec. 5. Kent State beat Chicago State 92-63 in Kent back on Nov. 16.
