Oxford, Ohio - Miami's Kayla Zakrzewski scored in the sixth minute to lead the Miami women' s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Golden Flashes on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Redhawks to 5-6-1 overall with a 2-1-1 mark in the Mid-American Conference, while Kent State dropped to 7-5-0 and 2-2-0 in league action.

The goal, scored with the time at 5:43, came after a blocked Miami shot by Katy Dolesh in the penalty area. Dolesh then crossed the ball to Zakrzewski , who put one past Kent goalkeeper Stephanie Senn. The goal was her first goal of the season.

At the 27-minute mark, Kent State earned three consecutive corners but could not produce, and senior Jessacca Gironda had a good look on goal in the 41^st minute but the shots were blocked. The Golden Flashes went into halftime with a 1-0 deficit.

Despite Miami out-shooting Kent 6-4 in the first 45 minutes, Kent State had a lot of solid chances in the second period, winning the shots battle 8-4. Right after the half, sophomore Stephanie Haugh accepted a cross in the box that Miami's keeper stopped, and senior Morgan Mah had a header that went just over the bar in the 86^th minute, but Kent State could not penetrate the stingy Miami defense.

Miami's Norenberg played all 90 minutes in goal and earned four saves to improve to 4-6-1 on the year, and Senn had one save in 90 minutes to drop to 7-5-0. '

Kent State will continue Mid-American Conference play at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at Buffalo, followed by a 1 p.m. game vs. Akron at Zoeller Field.
