Four Gymnasts Sign NLIs to join Golden Flashes in 2014

KENT, Ohio - Kent State University gymnastics coach Brice Biggin announced the signing of four gymnasts to National Letters of Intent. Alexandra
Marrero, Michaela Romito, Rachel Stypinski and Brooke Timko will join the Golden Flashes in the fall of 2014.

Marrero, a member of Gold Medal Gymnastics in Huntington, N.Y., finished in fourth on floor exercise at the 2011 Junior Olympic NIT meet. In 2013, she was the all-around champion at both the Brestyan's Invitational and the Tim Rand Invitational.

Romito, a member of Gymnastics World in Broadview Heights, Ohio, was a three-time Level 10 Region 5 Qualifier.

Competing for Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, Romito was a 2013 Ohio state balance beam champion. In 2012, Romito was the OHSSA State beam and floor champion, and garnered second in the all-around. In 2011, she was the OHSSA State floor champion, and placed second on beam and third all-around.

Stypinski, a member of Silvia's Gymnastics in Zieglersville, Pa., was a four-time qualifier to the Junior Olympic National Championships. Stypinski recently finished 11^th in the all-around at the 2013 JO National Championship and in 2009 she qualified to the Junior Olympic NIT meet where she finished third in the all-around.

Stypinski captured first place finishes on the bars, balance beam and the all-around at the Silvia Miltova Invitational in 2013, and garnered third place honors in the all-around at the Janet Rothenberg Memorial. Stypinski also captured first on the bars and all-around at the Pink Invitational, and won the gold on the bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around at the Pennsylvania State Championships. During the Region 7 Regional Meet, Stypinski earned first on the bars, floor and all-around.

Timko is a member of Olympic Dreams Gymnastics in Youngstown, Ohio. She was a two-time qualifier to the JuniorOlympic National Championships (2011, 2013) and qualified to the 2012 Junior Olympic NIT Meet where she finished sixth in the all-around and was the national runner-up on uneven bars. In 2013, Timko was the uneven bar champion at the Legacy Elite Winter Classic, placed second in the all-around at the I.G.I Chicago Style Invitational, Buckeye Classic and Ohio State Championships.
