Kent State (2-1) opens a seven-game homestand when it hosts Saint Peter's (0-2) the M.A.C. Center Sunday afternoon for 2 p.m. contest.
The Golden Flashes will return to the court for the first time since playing three games in the opening week of the season. The Flashes impressed by splitting a tough pair of road games in three nights during their first road trip of the year earlier in the week.
In front of a national audience on Monday to kickoff ESPN's Tip-Off Marathon, Kent State avenged a loss from last season by going into the Liacouras Center and putting together a terrific comeback to defeat Temple in its home opener, 81-77. Guards Derek Jackson and Devareaux Manley paced the Flashes with 17 points each and led a three-point barrage that saw Kent State shoot 11-for-22 on the night.
It was a similar script Wednesday night when the Flashes played at Seton Hall, trailing most of the way before taking the lead just before the final media timeout. This time, however, the Flashes were unable to sustain the lead. After a furious comeback in the final minute, Kent State had an opportunity to take the lead, but Manley's three-point attempt rolled out with 20 seconds remaining. Kris Brewer poured in a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers.
Saint Peter's seeks it first victory after losing a pair of close game to open the season. The Peacocks are led by 6-7 forward Marvin Dominique, who enters the game with averages of 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. A transfer from Fordham who sat out a season ago, Dominique had a monster night with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots in the season-opening los at LIU-Brooklyn.
