Men's Basketball Continues Coaches vs. Cancer Action Friday Against USC Upstate

Kent State (4-1) takes on USC Upstate (2-2) Friday evening in the second of three games in three nights at the M.A.C. Center as part of the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
The Golden Flashes got great contributions on the interior to remain unbeaten at home with a 72-9 victory over Western Carolina on the opening night of Coaches vs. Cancer Classic subregional action on Thursday. Senior Mark Henniger posted his second straight game with a career points total, scoring a game-high 17 points. Henniger, Devareaux Manley, Khaliq Spicer and Chris Ortiz grabbed eight rebounds apiece as the Flashes outrebounded the Catamount 49-39. This was a career-high for Manley and Spicer, and Ortiz matched his total from a season ago against Bethune-Cookman.
Point guard Kris Brewer added 12 points in the victory and is the Flashes' top scorer on the season, as he brings a 13.4 ppg average into Friday's contest. Guard Derek Jackson averages 11.8 ppg and has brought great energy on the defensive end of the floor, helping Kent State hold its last two opponents to fewer than 60 points. The Flashes had 9 players score on Thursday, marking the first time at least 10 players did not have a point this season.
USC Upstate defeated Niagara, 83-74, on Thursday night and is led by one of the Atlantic Sun's top players in senior Torrey Craig, who averages 22.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. The 6'4" guard is coming off a monster night, where he had 25 points 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Ty Greene adds 17.3 ppg from his point guard position. The Spartans, who have not played at home, opened the season with a 64-63 victory at Virginia Tech.
