11/22/2013 2:00:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
GENEVA, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss (21-25, 24-25, 19-25) to top-seeded Ohio Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Tournament at SPIRE Institute.
The Golden Flashes finish the season at 12-18 with the loss, which marked the second time in just over a week that they fell to the MAC regular season champions in straight sets. Friday's match was much more competitive, however, than the previous one in Athens and featured a total of 21 ties and eight leads changes.
Juniors Lauren Engleman and Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola led the Flashes with seven kills apiece. Senior Aleksandra Nowak recorded 25 assists in the final match of a terrific college career. Nowak finishes her career ranked fourth on Kent State's career assists list with 3,371 assists.
Kent State out-dug the Bobcats, 39-36, in the match. Nowak led the way with nine digs, while fellow senior Hannah Herc had eight and Kaylee Koller and Madeline Moxley added seven each. Herc's season total of 479 digs is the third-most in program history and also ranks third on the Flashes' career digs list (1,287).
Picked to finish last in the East Division, the Golden Flashes earned the No. 8 seed and tied for third in their division with a 6-10 record. The team doubled its overall win total from a season ago and knocked off a nationally-ranked opponent for the first time in program history when the Bobcats visited Kent on October 10.
