The Golden Flashes are 6-0 at home this season, which includes five consecutive wins since returning from an East Coast road trip two weeks ago. After winning three games in three nights last weekend as a subregional host for the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, the Flashes were able to hold off a surging Youngstown State team on Wednesday, 83-79. Junior Derek Jackson paced the Flashes with 15 points, as the Golden Flashes' balanced offense was on display with five players in double-figures for the second consecutive game.
Senior Mark Henniger, who was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday, continued his strong play as of late with 11 points and seven rebounds as the Flashes held a 40-29 rebounding edge, which included 15 offensive boards.
Junior point guard Kris Brewer leads Kent State in scoring at 12.6 ppg, while Jackson (11.8), junior Devareaux Manley (10.9) and senior Darren Goodson (10.1) are also averaging double-figures in scoring this season. Sophomore K.K. Simmons looks to growing into his role off the bench, averaging 15.0 ppg over the past two games. Simmons leads the MAC in three-point shooting (.579).
Kennesaw State also played Youngstown State, falling to the Penguins, 73-57. The Owls are coming off a 95-67 loss at Cincinnati on Friday afternoon. Kennesaw State have struggled offensively this season, averaging just 66.8 ppg while committing 17.0 turnovers per game. 6'5" forward Orlando Coleman leads the team in both scoring (11.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg), while 6'0" guard Delbert Love adds 10.2 ppg.

• Kent State served as a subregional site for the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic over the weekend, winning all three contests. Dating back to last season, the Flashes have won 12 straight at the M.A.C. Center.
• A balanced scoring attack has been key to the Flashes' early success with at least nine players score in each of the first eight games this season.
• The Flashes are getting huge bench contributions and have received 21 or more points from their reserves in each game. They are outscoring the opposing bench by an average of 26.6-15.2.
• KSU has made 67 three-point field goals on the season, which is tied for 8th nationally.
• The Flashes are averaging just 9.3 turnovers per game, which is 6th-fewest in the nation.
