The Game
Kent State will try to end a four-game losing streak on Saturday, Feb. 2, when Eastern Michigan visits the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes have not lost five games in a row since 2009 when they dropped neutral-site games to Illinois and Texas A&M in late November before opening December by falling at Kansas and at home to both Saint Mary's and Western Carolina.
Eastern Michigan hopes to end a streak of its own on Saturday. The Eagles have lost 16 consecutive games to Kent State dating back to Feb. 7, 1998 when Earl Boykins scored 30 points and Derrick Dial added 20 in their 79-74 victory in Kent.
The most recent opponent for both Kent State and Eastern Michigan is Northern Illionois. The Eagles handed the Huskies a 42-25 loss in Ypsilanti, Mich. last week. On Wednesday, Eastern Michigan's game at Ohio University was postponed while Kent State lost 67-65 at Northern Illinois.
Chris Evans continues to lead Kent State in both scoring (16.6) and rebounding (7.0). Derek Thompson is Eastern Michigan's top scorer at 11.2 per game. Da'Shonte Riley leads the Eagles in rebounding at 6.1 per game.
Saturday is a homecoming for Eastern Michigna head coach Rob Murphy and associate head coach Mike Brown. Murphy was an assistant coach at Kent State from 2002-04. Brown was director of basketball operations for the Golden Flashes in 2007-08.
