Flashes place two on All-MAC First Team

KENT, Ohio – Kent State senior gymnast Rachel Guida (Cumberland, R.I.) and junior gymnast Marie Case (Erie, Pa.) were named to the 2013 All-MAC First Team as announced today (March 22) by the Mid-American Conference.
Guida has earned three MAC Specialist of the Week honors this season with top honors on the uneven bars in all but one meet this season. She is ranked first in the MAC, second regionally and 18th nationally on bars. Guida has competed on vault and bars every meet this season and has recorded a score of 9.8 or higher in 17 of 20 routines.
Case, the reigning MAC Gymnast of the Year, was named MAC Gymnast of the Week this season three straight weeks from Jan. 30-Feb.13. She has recorded 22 scores of 9.800 or higher this winter and has won four of five all-around competitions, including a personal best 39.450 Feb. 2 at Bowling Green.
The No. 21 Kent State gymnastics team is in good position heading into Saturday's (March 23) MAC gymnastics championship meet at University Arena on the campus of Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Golden Flashes were a perfect 6-0 in MAC meets during the regular season and have won eight straight meets overall, covering 15 opponents since Jan. 19.
Kent State has finished second to No. 22 Central Michigan in each of the past three MAC championship meets, but defeated Central Michigan, 196.050-194.900, in their Feb. 15 dual meet. The Golden Flashes have won 11 MAC titles overall, including back-to-back crowns in 2008 and 2009.
The MAC championship meet is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich.Â
