New York Jets Draft Brian Winters in Third Round

Kent State offensive lineman Brian Winters (Hudson, Ohio) was selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft Friday night. The 72nd pick overall, Winters was the first Kent State player taken in the draft since 2010 (Jameson Konz) and the highest selection since 2007 (Usama Young).
"I'm elated, I'm as pleased as I can be," Offensive Coordinator Brian Rock said. "He's a great player with a great chance to play for a while at this level. It's great to see him on this national stage…now the work starts. I talked to him yesterday and he was very anxious."
A three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection with the Golden Flashes, Winters became just the second Kent State player ever to compete in the Senior Bowl.
Spending most of his time at left tackle at Kent State, the 6-4, 320-pounder is expected play guard in the NFL.
Since 1974, Winters, Usama Young (Saints), O.J. Santiago (Falcons) and Bob Hallen (Falcons) have been the only Golden Flashes to go in the top three rounds.
