Kent State Drops Mid-American Conference Match vs. Central Michigan

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Central Michigan in its first Mid-American Conference matchup of the 2013 season on Zoeller Field Friday afternoon.

Earning its first win of the season, Central Michigan improved to 1-7-1 on the year, while Kent State dropped to 5-4-0.Â

Despite the Golden Flashes dominating the Chippewas in shots (21-7) and in corner kicks (10-4), Central Michigan was able to gain a one-goal lead in the first half and defend its goal for the remainder of the game to come away with the victory.

The game-winner came at the 36:48 mark when Central Michigan's right fullback Morgan Wilcoxon blasted a shot past Kent State goalkeeper Stephanie Senn. The goal was her first of the season, and the assist was credited to Tory Kinniard.

Senior Jessacca Gironda led the Flashes' offense with four shots, while Jaclyn Dutton tallied three. Senn picked up the loss in net after for Kent State. She posted two saves in her 90 minutes of action.

Grace Labrecque earned the win in goal for Central Michigan after sending away six Kent State shots.Â

The Golden Flashes are back in action on Zoeller Field at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Bowling Green.
