KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Ball State on Sunday afternoon at Zoeller Field. With the loss, the Golden Flashes dropped to 7-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in Mid-American Conference play, while Ball State improves to 7-4-2 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play.

The lone goal of the game came in the 34^th minute off a Ball State corner kick. Sophomore Leah Mattingly sent a cross in from the left corner and senior Victoria Jacobs headed the cross into the top right corner.

Kent State fought hard and had a number of good chances in the second half but could not come up with the equalizer. The Golden Flashes enjoyed a 17-7 advantage in total shots and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In the second-half, at the 52:06 mark, freshman midfielder Kristen Brots had a shot from 12-yards out hit the top left part of the crossbar. Then in the 54^th minute, senior forward Stephanie Haugh had a nice cross from the left side into the box that the Flashes weren't able to capitalize on.

With 10 minutes remaining Haugh had another chance for the Flashes as she fought for a ball inside the 18-yard box and attempted a shot but was thwarted by diving Cardinals goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel. Kent State's last good shot on goal came with 6:17 remaining following a corner kick.

After earing a corner kick, the Flashes picked up a rebound out of the box on the left side of the 18-yard box. Sophomore forward Jenna Hellstrom gained control of the ball and fired a shot on goal from 22 yards out.

Kent State had been riding a four game unbeaten streak with its last loss coming on September 26 to Buffalo. The Golden Flashes are back in action on Friday when they embark on a two game road trip. The Flashes will next play on Friday at 4 p.m. at Eastern Michigan.
