Women’s Soccer Falls to Bowling Green, 1-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon at Cochrane Field. The loss drops the Golden Flashes to 8-5-3 overall (3-3-2 MAC), while Bowling Green improved to 4-11-0 (3-5-0 MAC).
Despite the Golden Flashes' 25-11 lead in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, the Falcons ended up on top after scoring in the 26th minute. Freshman forward Skylar Fleak tallied her fifth goal, the game-winner, when she defeated Kent State keeper Stephanie Senn (Grand Island, N.Y.) one on one and put one into the back of the net.
The Golden Flashes had their first good look on goal in the 15th minute when freshman Doni Capehart (Orient, Ohio) plays the ball into sophomore Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario). Hellstrom crossed the ball to junior Madison Helterbran (North Canton, Ohio) who one-timed it, but the ball was saved by Bowling Green keeper Lauren Cadel. Helterbran had chance in the 21st minute when she blasted a shot on goal but it was once again sent away.
Bowling Green nearly increased its lead in the 47th minute after a free kick, but Senn came up with the save. Kent State had a few more looks on net, but could not penetrate the stingy Falcon defense.
Senn earned the loss in net and dropped to 8-5-3 on the year. She ended the day with nine saves , while Bowling Green sophomore goalkeeper, Cadel, recorded 10.
Kent State will host Toledo (Oct. 24) and Central Michigan (Oct. 26) next weekend in its final two home games of the 2014 season.
