
Soccer Hosts Toledo, CMU in Final Home Contests

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team hosts Toledo and Central Michigan in its final two home matches of the 2014 season this weekend. The Golden Flashes (8-5-3, 3-3-2 MAC) play host to Toledo (6-9-1, 3-5-0 MAC) and Central Michigan (4-11-1, 2-6-0 MAC) on Friday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.), respectively.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Despite Kent State's commanding 25-11 lead in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, Bowling Green was able to come up with a goal in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead that it would not relinquish.  Stephanie Haugh led the Kent State attack with six shots, including three on goal, and Madison Helterbran added five shots (2 on goal).  Goalkeeper Stephanie Senn was handed the loss in net for the Flashes to drop to 8-5-3 after earning nine saves.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
The Golden Flashes went 1-1-0 last weekend defeating Eastern Michigan, 2-1, in overtime but fell 1-0 to Bowling Green. Freshman Kristen Brots gave Kent State a 1-0 lead when she tallied a goal just 12 minutes into the game, and Jaime Eiben scored her first career goal in the 96th minute to lead the Golden Flashes to the overtime victory.Â
Sophomore Jenna Hellstrom leads the Kent State attack with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Stephanie Haugh has added nine points on two goals and five assists, while her and Hellstrom rank second in the Mid-American Conference in assists. Goalkeeper Stephanie Senn has started in all 16 games and has an 8-5-3 record with six shutouts. She has allowed 13 goals (0.77 gaa) and has 83 saves (.865 %).
The Golden Flashes lead the league in shots (251) and assists (25), and also rank second in points (69) and third in corner kicks (85).
SCOUTING TOLEDO
The Rockets are coming off a split last weekend, defeating Akron 3-0 in Toledo, followed by a 3-0 loss to first-place Buffalo.  Toledo has 14 goals this season, including three from both Geri Siudzinski and Kiersten Johnson. Siudzinski is Toledo's top scorer with eight points.
In goal, Sam Tiongson has started in all 16 games and has a 6-9-1 record with five shutouts. She has allowed 20 goals (1.22 gaa) and has posted 68 saves (.773).
Last year, the Rockets finished 6-12-1 overall and went 3-7-1 in the MAC to finish fourth in the West division. The squad returned six starters and welcomed nine newcomers to the 2014 roster.  Â
Kent State earned a 3-0 victory over Toledo last season.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The Chippewas are also coming off a split last weekend, losing to Buffalo in their Friday game, but defeating Akron, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon. In the win, junior Kaelyn Korte scored two goals and senior Emily Cooksey scored one goal against the Zips. Â
Laura Gosse leads Central Michigan in scoring with 12 points on six goals, and Korte has tallied seven points on three goals and an assist. Maddy Bunnell has started 11 games in goal for the Chippewas and has a 2-8-1 record. She has allowed 21 goals (1.85 gaa) and has 64 saves (.753).
Last season, the Chippewas went 8-11-1 overall and earned an 8-4 mark in the MAC to finish third in the West division. Central Michigan defeated Kent State 1-0 in 2013.
THE ALL-TIME RECORDS
Toledo and Kent State are meeting for the 20th time, as Kent State leads the all-time series 10-8-1. After falling to the Rockets in five straight contests, the Golden Flashes got back on track and has won the last two, including a 3-1 win in Toledo last season.
Central Michigan is leading the all-time series vs. the Flashes, 9-6-2. The Chippewas have been victorious over the Golden Flashes in their last seven meetings. The last Kent State victory was on Oct. 29, 2006 when the Golden Flashes earned a 5-4 double overtime win in Mt. Pleasant.
