KENT, Ohio - Kent State (3-0) continues play at this weekend's inaugural 2014 Men Against Breast Cancer Classic against Illinois-Chicago (1-2) Saturday night at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes are coming off an impressive 74-51 victory over Southern Illinois on Friday night. The Flashes led wire-to-wire after Jimmy Hall made a jumper on the opening possession of the game. A contested three-pointer by Derek Jackson out of the under-12 media timeout sparked a 12-2 run to put Kent State ahead 31-13. The Flashes led by double-digits the rest of the night, reaching as much as 24 in the second half. The Flashes made 10-of-18 three-point shots while holding SIU to just 1-for-6 from the arc.
Kris Brewer led four Flashes in double-figures scoring as he led all players with 17 points and five assists. Hall was right behind with 16 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Derek Jackson scored 12 points and led a great team effort in holding high-scoring SIU guard Anthony Beane to just 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting from the floor. Devareaux Manley poured in 10 points to lead the Flashes to a 23-9 advantage in bench scoring.
Hall's play inside over the first week of the season has provided a huge boost for the Flashes, as he is averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Brewer (12.3 ppg), Jackson (10.0 ppg) and Manley (9.7 ppg) have provided a scoring punch on the perimeter.
Illinois-Chicago (1-2) never led and did not have a payer in double-figures in a 70-58 loss to Yale on Friday. Forward Jake Wiegand has been the top player for the Flames early in the season and averages 17.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg. Guard Marc Brown and Paris Burns both average 12.3 ppg but no other player averages more than 5.7 ppg.

• This will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools.
• Illinois-Chicago is the second of five first-time opponents on the Golden Flashes' schedule this season.
• Kent State will also play Malone, Arkansas-Little Rock, North Carolina A&T and North Dakota State for the first time on the hardwood.
