Men’s Basketball Kicks Off Michigan Road Trip Wednesday vs. Chippewas

Kent State (12-9, 3-5) plays the first of two Mid-American Conference road games in the state up north when it takes on Central Michigan (7-13, 0-8) at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
The Golden Flashes will look to carry their momentum from a thrilling 60-57 victory over Akron Saturday evening. Senior Darren Goodson made a fading three-pointer from a few feet beyond the top of the key with 1.6 to play and give the Flashes their second consecutive regular season win over the rival Zips. Goodson scored 10 of his team-high 12 points after picking up his fourth personal foul, including Kent State's final eight.
Goodson has led the Flashes in scoring in each of the past four games and is the team's second-leading scorer in conference play at 10.3 points per game, matching his average on the season. He also adds 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest.
Junior Kris Brewer leads the Flashes with 11.9 points and 2.9 assists per game on the season. In league play, Brewer is averaging 3.9 assists and owns nearly a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Junior Derek Jackson will be playing at McGuirk Arena for the first time as a visitor. Jackson, who spent two seasons in Mount Pleasant from 2010-12, leads the Flashes in three-point shooting (.382) and steals (1.9 spg). He is also the Flashes' second-leading scorer at 10.7 points per game.
Senior Mark Henniger and junior Devareaux Manley have strengthened the Flashes' bench since taking on a reserve role three games ago. Against Akron, they combined for 13 points and 10 rebounds. Henniger is the Flashes' top rebounder (5.4 rpg), while Manley averages 9.3 points per game.
Central Michigan seeks its first conference win and has lost 10 straight against Division I opponents. The Chippewas play an up-tempo style, ranking second in the MAC in scoring (74.2) and allow the second-most points per game (72.1).
Sophomore Chris Fowler is one of the MAC's elite point guards and is the conference's leading scorer in league play (20.0 ppg). Fowler averages 17.9 points and 4.9 assists per game while shoot better than 56-percent from the floor to rank in the top five in the MAC in each statistic.
At 6'8", forward John Simons is the Chippewas' tallest rotation player. Simons averages 10.8 points, a team-best 6.1 rebounds and shoots 39-percent fro the three-point line.
