The Meet
Since beginning back in 2008, the "Flip For the Cure" event has become a marquee event both on campus and in the community to unite people in helping women in the area defeat the deadly disease.
Over the past five years, Kent State has raised over $20,000 to help organizations in their efforts to assist those suffering from breast cancer. The proceeds from the "Flip for the Cure" go to Stewart's Caring Place.
The gymnastics team relies on local merchants to donate items, which are assembled into raffle baskets; the squad also sells t-shirts to help raise funds as well as awareness.
Last year, over 1,200 fans attended Kent State's "Flip For the Cure" meet against Northern Illinois, and over $12,000 was raised from t-shirt sales and 30 raffle baskets.
Along with raffle baskets and t-shirts, there will be a Pinkest fan competition, breast cancer survivor recognition, along with various other promotions and activities.
Last Time Out
Kent State has had a week off from competition as they look to improve on their No. 25 national ranking. The Golden Flashes finished with scores of 48.575 on the vault, 48.525 on the uneven parallel bars, 48.150 on the balance beam and 48.775 on the floor exercise in their 194.025-192.100 win over Western Michigan on Jan. 24 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Kent State was led by Marie Case, who took first in the All-Around with a score of 39.150. Case took first in the Balance Beam (9.850) as Nicolle Eastman took second (9.800) and Nicole Radon took third with a 9.750.
Case once again saw herself in first as she tied for first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850 as Amiah Mims tied for first on the vault (9.800).
