Flashes to Meet Eastern Michigan in Key Road Contest

Kent State (12-10, 3-6) plays at Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a matchup of two teams that lost in the final minute of their most recent games.
The Golden Flashes look to bounce back from a 78-73 overtime loss to Central Michigan on Wednesday. After leading by seven points at halftime, the Flashes trailed by as many as eight following a 28-11 run by the Chippewas in the second half. A pair of K.K. Simmons three-pointers in the final :43 sent the game to overtime, but the Flashes were outscored 17-12 in the extra session to fall to 3-5 on the road.
Head coach Rob Senderoff's team is 3-6 in Mid-American Conference play for the second straight season. Senderoff hopes his squad will have a finish similar to a year ago, when the Flashes won six of it final seven league games.
Guard Kris Brewer leads Kent State in scoring (12.1 ppg) on the season and his improved his play since the beginning of league play. Brewer averages 12.3 points, 4.0 assists and has a 2.25 assist-to-turnover ration in MAC games. Derek Jackson joins him to provide a scoring threat in the backcourt and averages 10.7 points per game. Jackson leads the Flashes in steals (41) and three-point shooting (.381).
Forward Darren Goodson recorded a double-double Wednesday against the Chippewas. Goodson scored an efficient 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds while adding three assists, one steal and one block.
Guard Devareaux Manley and forward Mark Henniger have provided a boost to Kent State's bench since transitioning to a reserve role a few weeks ago. Manley averages 9.0 points per game and has made a team-best 43 three-point shots. Henniger adds 7.7 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds per game.
Eastern Michigan (12-10, 4-5) is in a bit of a slump with losses in four of its last five games. The Eagles are among the nation's top defensive teams and lead the MAC in points allowed (63.3), opponent field goal percentage (.372) and steals per game (8.2).
With long athletes on the wing and 7'0" center Da'Shonte Riley protecting the paint, the Eagles execute a zone defense that opponents have struggled to solve. Riley averages 2.7 blocks per game, which ranks second in the MAC.
Eastern Michigan features a balanced offense with four players averaging double-figure points. Junior Karrington Ward is the team's top scorer (13.9 ppg) and rebounder (6.9 rpg). Forward Glenn Bryant (10.6 ppg), guard Raven Lee (10.6 ppg) and point guard Mike Talley (10.0 ppg) join Ward in double-figures.
