Men's Basketball Closes Regular Season Friday Night at Akron

Kent State (16-14, 7-9) closes the regular season at Akron as the biggest rivalry in the Mid-American Conference is once again brought to the national spotlight with a 7 p.m. tip on ESPN2.
More than bragging rights will be on the line as both teams are battling for favorably seeds in next week's conference tournament. Kent State needs a win to keep hopes alive of hosting a first round game Monday evening. For Akron, a win would clinch the No. 4 seed and bye into tournament semifinals at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Golden Flashes look for their first season sweep of the Zips since 2010 after a 60-57 victory at the M.A.C. Center on Feb. 1. Senior forward Darren Goodson provided the game-winner with in a fading three-point shot from beyond the top of the key with 1.6 on the clock, which will go down as one of the biggest shots in rivalry history. Goodson scored the Flashes' final eight points and finished with a team-high 12 for the game.
Guard play has been crucial to the Flashes' success this season. Junior Kris Brewer paces the team at 11.9 points per game and 3.0 assists per game. Junior Derek Jackson adds 11.1 points per game while leading the way with 56 steals. Junior Devareaux Manley, who has come off the bench since late January, averages 9.8 point per game and has a team-best 68 three-pointers. The trio averages for 35.5 points and 5.6 three-pointers while shooting a blistering 44.5 percent from beyond the arc in Kent State's 16 victories this season.
Scouting the Zips
Akron (19-11, 11-6) is led by forward Demetrius Tsreadwell, who is among the conference leaders in scoring (14.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). Treadwell has been a handful for the Flashes the past seasons, averaging 14.5 points and 12.8 rebounds over four games. Guard Quincy Diggs adds 12.4 points per game while leading the Zips in assists (2.6 apg).
The Zips are dangerous from the three-point line. Four players—Quincy Diggs, Jake Kretzer, Reggie McAdams and Nyles Evans—have made at least 36 on the season and they have made 10 or more as a team in 10 games.
