Eric Dorsch was drafted in the 15th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates and John Fasola was chosen in the 31st round by the Texas Rangers on the final day of Major League Baseball's First Year Player Draft Saturday (June 7).
Â
Dorsch led Kent State in saves in 2014, finishing with 10 and a 3.56 ERA in 30.1 innings with 10 walks and 27 strikeouts. In his three-year career, the Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, native posted a 3.48 ERA with a 5-7 record, 15 saves, 43 walks and 85 strikeouts in 82.2 innings. The tall right-handed reliever was also drafted in 2013 in the 21st round by the Cincinnati Reds.
Â
Fasola pitched one season in the blue and gold from the bullpen after transferring from Kansas State. The righty finished with a 4.66 ERA with a 2-2 record, two saves, eight walks and 28 strikeouts in 29 innings. He was named to the 2014 Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team after an impressive two appearances. Fasola was drafted out of Walsh Jesuit High School in 2010 by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010.
Â
The two join left-handed pitcher Brian Clark, who was drafted in the 9th round by the Chicago White Sox, as the 2014 Kent State draftees. The Golden Flashes have now had three or more players drafted in the past six years. All three of the 2014 draft picks have a year of college eligibility remaining.
