BRADFORD, Pa. – The Kent State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to host St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Parkway Field. The Golden Flashes are now 1-1-0 on the year, while the Bonnies improved to 1-1-0.
The Bonnies scored 13:59 into the game when rookie Danielle Vis tallied her first career goal, and the first of the Bonnies' season, after receiving a cross from junior Abby Maiello. Vis got the ball past Kent State junior keeper Stephanie Senn with a high shot to the right corner. The Grand Island, N.Y. native tallied three saves in her 90 minutes in net.
Both teams had four shots in the first half, but the Golden Flashes turned up their intensity in the final 45 minutes out-shooting the Bonnies 7-2. Kent State also had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Christina Sarokon picked up her first win of the year after stopping four Kent State shots. The victory was the first-ever win for the Bonnies against Kent State, as the Golden Flashes have won all five previous meetings.
The Golden Flashes will now travel west to compete in a tournament hosted at UNLV. Kent State will challenge St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, and will then take on the University of Colorado at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31.
