Louisville Defeats Kent State 3-2 in Overtime

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite having a 2-0 lead after the first period, the Kent State women's soccer team fell 3-2 in overtime to Louisville on Sunday at Lynn Field. The loss dropped the Golden Flashes to 4-2-0 on the year, while the Cardinals improved to 3-4-0.
Kent State struck early as freshman Doni Capehart (Orient, Ohio) tallied her first career goal just 7:09 into the game. Freshman Kristen Brots (Naperville. Ill.) crossed the ball to Capehart, who headed one past Cardinals goalkeeper Paige Brown to put Kent State ahead, 1-0.
Senior forward Stephanie Haugh (Richmond Hill, Ontario) then scored her first goal of the year after she nailed a shot from over 25-yards out to the upper corner of the net to increase Kent State's lead to 2-0. At the intermission, Kent State and Louisville were even in shots, 4-4, but Louisville edged Kent State 2-0 in corner kicks.
Louisville turned up the heat in the second period, out-shooting the Golden Flashes 17-0 in the final 45 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Senn (Grand Island, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves in the half, but the Cardinals were able to even the score to send the game into overtime minutes.
Louisville's Kaela Dickerman earned her first goal of the year when she blasted a shot past Senn at 52:42 from the top of the box. With just over four minutes remaining in the game, the Cardinals tied the score at 2-2 when Isabella Habuda scored off a Hannah Konermann cross.
The overtime period did not last long, as Louisville's Alison Price earned her first goal of the season after knocking in a cross from Chinyelu Asher 1:58 into the period.
Senn (4-2-0) tallied a career-high 11 saves for the Golden Flashes and received the loss in net for the Golden Flashes. Paige Brown recorded one save for the Cardinals.
Louisville out-shot Kent State 22-4 for the game, and led 6-1 in corner kicks.
Kent State is back in action against Oakland at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 at Zoeller Field.
