Beauty & the Beast: Gymnastics Hosts Pittsburgh Friday

The Golden Flashes' gymnastics team is set to take on the University of Pittsburgh in the 3rd annual Beauty & the Beast competition this Friday, January 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center. Spectators also get to witness the Kent State wrestling team take on Eastern Michigan University in a MAC battle. The Golden Flashes are attempting to win both events for the third time in three years.

Kent State's gymnastics and wrestling teams both look to win the event for the third straight year as both teams defeated opponents in the first two years of the event. Last year the Flashes' teams defeated NC State last year as the gymnastics team won 195.400-194.150 and the wrestling team won 23-14.

Coloring Contest & Autographs
Prior to the Beauty and the Beast event, kids can enter a coloring contest. The winner will receive a Future Flashes prize pack. After the competition, wrestlers and gymnasts will be signing autographs
The Golden Flashes ...
Kent State (1-3, 1-1 MAC) looks for their second win in a row after defeating Western Michigan University 194.900- 193.325 on January 23.
Leading the way for the Golden Flashes is Mid-American Conference Specialist of the week, Rachel Stypinski. Stypinski finished first on beam and floor with scores of 9.875 in both events. Her 9.875 on both events, were career-highs for the freshman native out of Boyertown, Pa.
Rebecca Osmer also came away victorious with a 9.800 on the bars, to lead the team. Also, leading the Flashes on the night was Brooke Timko, who finished second on the vault with a score of 9.850.
Chelsea Drooger and Michaela Romito took second and third on the bars behind Osmer with scores of 9.775 and 9.725, respectively.
University of Pittsburgh ...
The Panthers (2-4) come in to Kent this weekend after falling to New Hampshire 195.450-192.175.
Lindsay Offutt finished tied for first on floor with a 9.800. Taylor Laymon also finished tied for first on bars with her highest score of the season, a 9.825.
Tracey Pearson tied for second on vault with a 9.800, and finished third in the all-around with a season-high 38.600.
The Matchup ...
The Golden Flashes hold an all-time record of 19-13 against the Panthers. The University of Pittsburgh has been victorious in their last two regular season matchups with Kent State, whose last victory against the Panthers came in January of 2008.
A year ago, the Panthers defeated the Golden Flashes in Pittsburgh, Pa. by a final score of 196.125 to 195.975.
Kent State defeated Pittsburgh in the Blue/Gold exhibition on December 6th in Pittsburgh, Pa. b a score of 191.750 to 180.600.

The Golden Flashes next meet is scheduled for Saturday, January 7 at 4 p.m. when they travel to take on Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
