BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Kent State (2-7) lost a late, overtime heartbreaker to Indiana (6-4) on Friday afternoon by a final tally of 4-3.
The Hoosiers started the scoring ten minutes in, but the Golden Flashes answered four minutes later when Madison Thompson dribbled in from the right and beat the keeper to tie the match.
Indiana scored again shortly after to take a 2-1 lead into halftime and then made it a 3-1 advantage at the 54:19 mark in the second half.
Kent State kept things interesting as Ines Delpech scored on a direct shot on a corner play at 59:28 and then she scored again on a beautiful lift to the top of the net to tie the game at three with less than three minutes to play in regular time. Alayna Harris and Silvia Figa Malgosa earned assists on the corner goal.
In overtime, the Golden Flashes had a chance, but it was eventually Indiana who would take the game as they scored at 77:35 off a corner play to end the game.
Kent State led in shots 19-14 and in penalty corners by a margin of 9-6. Aside from her two goals, Delpech also led the team in shots with nine. Andrea Rinehart played the whole game in net with six saves.
The team now travels to Central Michigan for their second conference game of the year. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
