Onken & Slingluff Lead Kent State at MAC Cross Country Championships

AKRON, Ohio- The Kent State University men's and women's cross country team took part in the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by the University of Akron at the Canton GlenOak Community Park on Saturday, Oct.31. The men's squad captured eighth place as the women's team finished 10th.
The men's team finished in eighth out of nine teams with a total of 202 points and a time of 2:10:38. The Golden Flashes were led by Grant Onken, who took 21st overall out of the 80 runners with a time of 25:32.3.
Eastern Michigan claimed its sixth consecutive MAC Championship title with a time of 2:02:26 as junior Nicholas Raymond won the title with a time of 24:10.3.
Scoring points for Kent State behind Onken's 21st place finish were Kyle Brooks, 31st (25:48.7), Connor Whelan, 51st (26:21.6), Mitchell Grose, 55th (26:24.7), Nick Schank, 57th (26:30.5), Samuel Allen, 60th (26:38.2) and Zane Kahkonen Keppler, 61st (26:39.7). Also joining those seven Flashes on the course were Brandon Avers and Bayley Tow. Avers finished in 67th (26:52.6), and Tow crossed the line in 80th at 28:25.4.
The Kent State women's team finished in 10th out of 12 teams with a total of 271 points and a time of 1:55:07. Rachel Slingluff led the Golden Flashes with a 12th place finish out of 102 runners with a time of 21:36.9. Slingluff earned Second Team All-MAC honors.
Eastern Michigan earned its first team title in program history with 55 points and a time of 1:46.47. Junior Alsu Bogdanova won the individual title with a time of 20:39.3.
Scoring for Kent State with Slingluff was Hannah Fleck, 50th (22:44.2), Jesse Slingluff, 75th (23:27.3), Brigid Callaghan, 79th (23:36.0), Morgan Bing, 81st (23:42.1), Taylor Wickey, 83rd (23:51.3) and Emily Henry, 88th (24:05.2). Also joining those seven were Kristen Bergmeyer, who finished in 92nd (24:15.4) and Sarah Pack in 96th (24:24.8).
