Flashes Head to MAC Tournament Championship After 2-1 Win Over Ohio

MOUNT PLESANT, Mich. – No. 1 Kent State (10-8) picked up its pace in the second half of the Mid-American Conference Tournament opening game on Friday to take down No. 4 Ohio (8-10) by a score of 2-1.
The Golden Flashes will now play for the tournament title on Saturday at 2 p.m. They will face the winner of No. 2 Miami and No. 3 Missouri State.
Silvia Figa Malgosa got the scoring started on a deflection on a corner play, 11:26 into the game. Ines Delpech was credited with an assist.
Three minutes into the second half, the Bobcats were able to tie the game. But, Kent State came on strong, outshooting Ohio 11-4 in the closing 35 minutes. Alison Harmatz connected on the game winner, diving to get a tip-in on a shot from Shannon Talbot.
Andrea Rinehart had four saves in net for the win. The Bobcats had six shots on the day thanks to a strong defensive effort for the Flashes; the majority of their shots came on five penalty corners. Kent State totaled 14 shots and nine corners in the match. Madison Thompson had a team-high five shots while Figa Malgosa, Delpech and Harmatz all had two each.
