DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – This past weekend, the Kent State University Spirit Program traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete at the 2015 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship in the world-famous Band Shell.
The competition boasted 7,000 student-athletes and coaches from 43 states divided into 12 dance divisions and 16 cheer divisions. The teams, separated by designation of skill level, style and university enrollment, must qualify for the championship by the submission of a video that displays their best technical and game day skills.
The Kent State Dance team earned 10th place overall in an extremely competitive division, while earning their second consecutive Top-10 placing under the leadership of Head Coach Jordan Petersen-Fitts.
The Kent State Cheerleading squad, led by Demonde Gladman and Whitney Cleland, faced 17 universities competing for the National Championship title. The team finished the preliminary round in seventh, which advanced them to the final round of competition. For the third straight year, the cheerleaders placed amongst the Top-5 teams in their division finishing fourth.
The event is available by video on demand via ncaa.varsity.com and will be televised on CBS Sports Network later this spring.
