Skolnicki Becomes Third Academic All-American in Program History

Kent State baseball's Jared Skolnicki has earned Capital One Academic All-America Third Team honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Skolnicki is just the third student in Kent State baseball program history to be given Academic All-America distinction and is the first since 1991 when Joe Crawford was also selected to the Third Team. Rod Thompson was named an Academic All-American Third Team member in back-to-back seasons in 1987 and 1988.
The sophomore posted some of the best numbers in the Mid-American Conference this year, finishing with a 4-2 record and 2.32 ERA. He struck out 42 batters in 54.1 innings while only walking 12. In the classroom, he has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in mathematics.
Skonicki is one of 33 members of the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division I baseball team. To be eligible, nominees had to be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have reached sophomore standing.
