IOWA CITY, Iowa - Kent State (1-4) battled with No. 5 Stanford (6-1) Sunday afternoon, but lost 4-2 in a well-played match.

"We are leaving Iowa City after playing two formidable opponents and getting more experience and getting better every time we're out on the field," said Head Coach Kathleen Wiler

The Cardinal tallied their first goal 12 minutes in and followed that with one at the 13:46 mark. Another at 22:32 made it 3-0. The Golden Flashes broke through when Shannon Talbot scored off a deflection, her second goal in as many days and the second of her career.

In the second half, Stanford scored again to make it 4-1. Kent State's final goal came at 66:23. Just outside the attacking circle, Ines Delpech stole the ball and beat the keeper to make the final score 4-2.

Katelyn Keller had her first career start, playing all 70 minutes and ending the day with nine saves.

The Golden Flashes were nearly even in shots with the Cardinal, with 24 to their 25. They finished with twelve corners to Stanford's ten. Delpech led the offense with six shots while Alison Harmatz had five.

"We hit two posts today and had a lot of opportunities," said Wiler. "We have such a strong belief in this team and will keep working hard."

Kent State will travel to Ann Arbor next weekend to face another two top 20 teams. The team will take on Penn State Saturday at 4 p.m. and Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m.
