
Soccer Defeats Cleveland State 2-0 on Senior Day

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team took care of business on Senior Day as the Golden Flashes defeated Cleveland State 2-0. Junior Jenna Hellstrom's team-leading fifth goal of the season was the difference maker and sophomore Hayden Pascoe also scored for Kent State. Kent State scored both goals in the first half.
With the victory, Kent State improved to 3-2-2 and Cleveland State fell to 4-4-1. The Golden Flashes won their second game in a row as they go into a stretch of three games away from home.
Hellstrom's goal came on a free kick at the 8:54 mark in the first half. Hellstrom quickly took the free kick from the top of the 18-yard box and drove it past Cleveland State's goalkeeper Jamie Daniels.
Pascoe's goal came in the 29th minute off a cross from sophomore Karli Paracca. Paracca crossed a ball from the top of the box to the far right side of goal that Pascoe headed in to put the Golden Flashes up 2-0.
Kent State dominated play and kept the play on Cleveland State's side of the field for most of the game, the Golden Flashes outshot the Vikings 19-7 and had seven shots on goal. Freshman Ashleah McDonald had three saves for Kent State in the shutout.
Kent State is back in action on Friday, September 18th when they travel to Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. as the Golden Flashes look to win their third game in a row.
