
Soccer Travels to Eastern Kentucky on Friday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Kent State women's soccer team travels to Eastern Kentucky to take on the Colonels at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18.  Live stats and video will be provided at www.ekusports.com.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a pair of victories over Butler and Cleveland State last weekend to improve to 3-2-2 on the year. Junior forward Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) scored two game-winning goals and dished out an assist to lead her squad to victory and earn Mid-American Conference (MAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Hellstrom leads the team and the MAC in most offensive categories with 15 points on five goals and five assists. She also ranks 13th in the nation in points per game (2.14), 12th in assists per game (0.71) and eighth in total assists.
Also helping out with the offense is Hayden Pascoe (Belle Vernon, Pa.) with six points (2g, 2a), while Karli Paracca (Valencia, Pa.), Kristen Brots (Naperville, Ill.) and Donavan Capehart (Orient, Ohio) have four points apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (Langley, British Columbia) is 3-1-1 on the year and has played 454:44 between the pipes. McDonald has allowed just three goals (0.60 gaa), has 25 saves (.893) and one shutout for the Flashes.Â
The Colonels are coming off a 4-0 loss to Xavier last Sunday and are still searching for their first win of the 2015 season.  The team has tallied just five goals, with Logan Harvey leading the way with four points on two goals. Also scoring for Eastern Kentucky is Emmi Carroll, Bailey Bounds and Cassie Smith with one each.
Samm Melton has allowed 20 goals (3.25 gaa) and has 32 saves (.615) on the year and is 0-7 on the year. Â
Kent State and Eastern Kentucky are meeting for just the fourth time. The Golden Flashes lead the all-time series, 3-0.Â
