Kent State juniors Eric Lauer and Andy Ravel continue to have the eyes of scouts as D1Baseball released its 2016 Top 300 College Prospects with both pitchers making the list. Lauer was ranked in the 23rd spot while Ravel claimed the 149th.
In December, the duo made Perfect Game's 2016 Draft Prospects list at 35 and 223, respectively.
Lauer, who cemented himself in the weekend rotation since his freshman year, was drafted in the 17th round out of high school by the Blue Jays and has proved his abilities as a Golden Flash. The lefty went 5-4 last season with a 1.98 ERA, 103 strikeouts and 26 walks. This past summer he was a premier pitcher in the lauded Cape Cod League, finishing as one of the best in ERA, wins and strikeouts.
Ravel was also drafted in 2013 out of high school. He was a 21st round pick to the Diamondbacks but came to Kent State where he began his career as a midweek starter before settling into the weekend rotation. He went 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA in 13 starts during his sophomore campaign. Ravel also posted some strong innings in limited action in the Cape Cod League last summer.
Both will maintain a spot in the weekend rotation this season and will look to continue Kent State's dominance in the Mid-American Conference. The Golden Flashes will begin the 2016 season on February 19 against defending College World Series Champion Virginia.
