Flashes Edge Out Broncos 193.725-193.575

Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Kent State (2-1, 1-0 MAC) gymnastics team edged out Western Michigan (3-1 2-1 MAC) 193.725-193.575 on Sunday to pick up their first Mid-American Conference win of the season.Â
The Golden Flashes started off the day on the uneven bars, posting a team score of 48.475. Sophomore Ali Marrero led the way for the Flashes with a 9.775, good enough for second place. Coming in behind Marrero and tied for third place was freshman Sarah Lippowitsch with a 9.75, followed by Skyelee Lamano (9.725), Brooke Timko (9.65), Dara Williams (9.575), and Rachel Stypinski (9.275).
Junior Skyelee Lamano captured second on the floor exercise with a season high 9.85. Nicolle Eastman and Jordan Hardison both turned in scores of 9.775 to tie for fourth. Rachel Stypinski (9.75), Michaela Romito (9.65) and Kayla Kosmerl (9.575) brought the Flashes team score on floor to 48.8.
Kent secured the top three spots on beam with Rachel Stypinski (9.825) finishing on top and Kennedy Plude and Ali Marrero (9.775) finishing in a tie for second. As a team, the Flashes finished with a team score of 47.975 on beam.Â
On vault, the Flashes turned in a team score of 48.475. Dara Williams and Kennedy Plude each scored 9.75 and tied for second with Rachel Underwood and Kelsey Hood of Western Michigan. Following Williams and Plude was Brooke Timko (9.725), Jordan Hardison and Skyelee Lamano (9.625), and Nicolle Eastman (9.3).
The Golden Flashes improved to 55-20 all-time against the Broncos.
Kent State returns home on Feb. 7 to take on George Washington and Northen Illinois at 2 p.m. in the M.A.C. Center.Â
