Gymnastics Hosts George Washington and Northern Illinois Sunday

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team (2-1, 1-0 MAC) is set to host No. 17 George Washington (7-0, 3-0 EAGL) and Northern Illinois (1-3, 0-2 MAC) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, in the M.A.C. Center.

Kent State
In their last competition, the Golden Flashes narrowly defeated Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, 193.725-193.575. Freshman Kennedy Plude claimed two personal records and two second-place finishes on beam and vault with scores of 9.775 and 9.75, respectively. On beam, Plude tied with sophomore Ali Marrero, who also took second on bars with a 9.775.
Sophomore Rachel Stypinksi secured the only individual victory for the Flashes, scoring 9.825 on beam. Junior Skyelee Lamano turned in a season-high 9.85 on floor exercise, good enough for second place.
George Washington
The undefeated Colonials come into this weekend ranked No. 17 in the Road to Nationals standings after defeating North Carolina 194.95-194.275 on Jan. 30.
As a team, the Colonials scored 48.275 on vault, 48.65 on bars, 48.75 on beam, and 48.825 on floor. Sophomore Cami Drouin-Allaire captured two victories in the all-around (39.25) and vault (9.875).
Northern Illinois
In their last time out, the Huskies fell 194.775-193.950 to fellow Mid-American Conference contender Eastern Michigan. On beam, NIU scored a season-high 48.475 beating the Eagles by .25.
Andie Van Voorhis scored 9.8 on vault, taking first place overall while Jamyra Carter tied for first on bars with a mark of 9.85.
The Matchups
Kent State holds an all-time record of 11-1 against George Washington, with last year's meeting in the M.A.C Center resulting in a 195.700-193.725 Flashes victory. The Flashes turned in an impressive performance, taking the top three spots on beam, floor exercise, and bars.
The Golden Flashes hold a commanding 40-8 all-time record against the Huskies. NIU defeated Kent State 193.375-193.025 in the regular season last year despite the Flashes outscoring the Huskies on bars and beam. The Golden Flashes would get their revenge, however, defeating the Huskies in the postseason on their way to winning the MAC Championship.

The Flashes will travel to Muncie, Ind. Sunday, Feb. 14 to compete in a quad will Ball State, Kentucky, and Lindenwood.
