Gymnastics Set to Open Season at Home Sunday vs Temple

Kent State's gymnastics team looks to open the regular season and home portion of 2016 at 1 pm on Sunday, January 10th when they host Temple for the first time in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent.
The Golden Flashes kicked off the season in December with their annual Blue and Gold Exhibition against Pittsburgh, winning 192.675 to 191.125 inside the M.A.C. Center.
Kent State scored team totals of 47.950 on vault, 47.475 on bars, 48.375 on beam and 48.875 on floor. Winning events on the night were Ali Marrero, bars (9.75), and Rachel Stypinski, both beam (9.8) and floor (9.875).Â
SCOUTING THE OWLS ...
Temple is coming off a 193.425-188.900 loss to open their season to Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The Owls posted team scores of 47.675 on vault, 46.825 on bars, 46.975 on beam and 47.425 on floor.
Last season, Temple finished at 3-17 overall and took fifth at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships with a score of 192.075. The Owls saw three gymnasts earn ECAC medals in Lauren Capone, third on floor (9.85) and tied in fourth on vault (9.775), and Jasmine Johnson who tied for fourth on vault (9.775).
THE MEETING ...
This will be the fifth meeting between the Owls and Flashes where the series is tied 2-2. The previous matchup, Kent State won with a score of 188.300-184.500 at Kingston, R.I. as part of the 1994 postseason tournament.
This meeting in Kent will be the first of it's kind, and second meeting ever during a regular season. The Flashes hold a 1-0 record over the Owls in the regular season as they defeated Temple 180.500-179.750 in 1990 in a multi-team meet in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Following the home opener, the Golden Flashes will travel to Utah State on Friday, January 15th for the second matchup with the Aggies, the first in the regular season and first trip to Utah.
