The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday that Kent State's Ines Delpech and Madison Thompson have been named 2016 Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region honorees. Delpech was named to the first team while Thompson was named to the second team.
Delpech and the 15 other first team members will now be considered for All-America status, which will be announced next week. This is the second First Team All-Region recognition for Delpech who was also on the First Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament team this season. The junior was also First Team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament team in 2015. Delpech has also been honored by the organization with NFHCA Division I Scholar of Distinction and NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad accolades her first two years as a Golden Flash.
The Tandil, Argentina native made the move from midfield to defense this past season and helped lead Kent State to a 14-7 record, including a 6-0 conference season and a MAC Tournament championship that led Kent State to NCAA postseason play. She finished the 2016 campaign with seven goals and four assists for 18 points and a team-high 74 shots.
This marks the second Second Team All-Region honor in Thompson's four-year career. She also was named First Team All-MAC, MAC Tournament MVP and MAC All-Tournament team this season. Thompson was one of the selected seniors across the country to play in the NFHCA Senior Game where she helped her team by scoring a goal in the contest. The Waterloo, Ontario, Canada native was also named First Team All-MAC in both her junior and sophomore seasons. After switching from forward to midfield her final year she had four goals and three assists for 11 points. Two of her goals were game-winners, including in double-overtime against Ohio that clinched a perfect 6-0 conference season for the Flashes.
The NFHCA will announce the Division I Regional Players of the Year this Friday while All-Americans will be announced next Wednesday, December 7.
