
Soccer Headed to Northwestern for First Round of NCAA Tournament

KENT, Ohio- Kent State soccer learned Monday afternoon that they are headed to Evanston, Ill. to take on the No. 17 Northwestern Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 12. Â The match from Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium is set to kick off at 3:00pm CT/4:00pm ET. Â
The Golden Flashes are set to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing their first MAC Tournament Championship in program history this past Sunday. Kent State took down Northern Illinois 1-0 in the MAC Championship with an 85th minute goal by Kristen Brots.
The Golden Flashes have a program record 15 wins so far this season and tied a program record for conference wins a season with eight. Head Coach Rob Marinaro garnered MAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career after the Flashes clinched the MAC East Division for the first time since 2011 and set another program record with a 13-match unbeaten streak.Â
No. 17 Northwestern went 14-2-4 this season and 7-1-3 in the Big Ten. In the Big Ten Tournament, the Wildcats advanced on penalty kicks (4-3) over Nebraska in the first round, before falling to Rutgers 1-0 in the semifinals.
