CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kent State junior Ines Delpech was named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday (Nov. 9).
A sociology major with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average, Delpech earned All-Tournament Team honors after helping Kent State become the first team to go undefeated during the conference season and capture the MAC Field Hockey Championship title for the first time since 2000. She totaled three points on a goal and an assist while taking 10 shots and playing all 140 minutes in the Golden Flashes' two tournament contests.
Delpech broke a scoreless tie in Saturday's tournament final with a goal off a penalty corner with just under 30 minutes on the clock to provide a huge momentum swing for the Flashes as the tournament hosts went on to defeat Miami by a score of 4-0. She also assisted on the final goal of the game. Delpech, who moved to back prior to the season, anchored a defensive unit that smothered the opposition throughout the tournament. Kent State outshot its opponents 42-13, including 27-5 on goal, and held a 20-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The two-time All-MAC First Team selection has been named to the All-Tournament Team in leading the Flashes to the conference tournament crown in all three of her seasons on campus.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
